The Superstar

Randy Weston

Randy Weston, an award-winning gospel artist and two-time cancer survivor, leads Judah Band in blending faith-centered messages with contemporary gospel music. The Testimony Service project was designed to celebrate and modernize the tradition of sharing personal faith stories, combining nostalgia for traditional church experiences with a fresh, modern twist.

The Situation

The Testimony Service campaign aimed to revive the church tradition of sharing testimonies by presenting these personal stories of faith in a way that felt both familiar and new. With an EP to launch and live events planned, Randy sought to connect with a diverse audience, inspiring them through relatable stories and music that speaks to spiritual growth. Supernormal was tasked with unifying the project’s branding, visual storytelling, and narrative approach to create an engaging and impactful campaign.

The Solution

Supernormal’s Strategy & Approach Supernormal developed a multifaceted approach to the Testimony Service project, bringing together branding, storytelling, and visual creativity that balanced nostalgia with a modern flair:
  • Brand Positioning & Messaging The brand messaging was rooted in the concept of testimonies as “God’s greatest marketing plan,” focusing on the power of personal stories to uplift and inspire faith. Supernormal crafted a narrative that emphasized hope, resilience, and spiritual empowerment, with themes that resonated across generations and backgrounds. This positioned the Testimony Service EP as a relatable and transformative experience.
  • Creative Direction for Visual Identity Supernormal created the cover art and campaign collateral to reflect the campaign’s core themes, ensuring a cohesive and compelling visual presence. The design combined elements reminiscent of traditional church aesthetics with contemporary visuals, capturing the project’s nostalgic yet modern approach.
  • Development of the Creative Concept Video The creative concept video set the tone for the Testimony Service project. The storyline follows “Brother Randy” rushing to prepare for a church service after sharing his testimony over the phone with a “church mother.” The video transitions from a 1990s setting to a modern car scene with Judah Band’s rendition of “Fire Shut Up in My Bones.” This blending of eras underscores the project’s ability to honor tradition while appealing to modern sensibilities.
  • EP Release Party & Live Activations The Testimony Service EP launched with a live release party, combining live music, testimonies, and the atmosphere of a modern-day testimony service. Supernormal’s lead-up marketing campaign ensured the experience was both immersive and emotionally resonant, creating a space for both nostalgia and modern celebration of faith.

Outcomes & Achievements

The Testimony Service EP peaked at #14 on the Billboard Charts and reached #2 on the Current Gospel Album charts, achieving significant visibility and impact in the gospel music industry. The creative concept video and campaign collateral played a key role in engaging audiences, while the live launch event successfully amplified the project’s themes of faith and empowerment, further cementing Randy Weston & Judah Band’s presence within the gospel community.
